Payhip lets a creator upload a digital product, describe it, set a price, and deliver files after checkout. For a sewing pattern, the important work is making the listing precise and confirming that the exact files a customer receives are usable. This walkthrough follows Payhip’s published digital-product instructions, checked 11 October 2026. We did not log into a seller account or claim a live checkout test.
If you have not finished the pattern package, first read how to prepare a PDF pattern download. The broader launch sequence is in how to sell PDF sewing patterns online.
Check whether Payhip fits your sales plan
Payhip is a direct storefront choice: it gives you product pages and digital delivery, while you still need a way to bring interested makers to the page. Compare that with a marketplace where shoppers may search within the platform. The practical question is not “which platform is best?” but “where will my first buyers come from, and what work am I prepared to do?” Our Payhip vs Etsy comparison lays out that choice.
Review current costs before opening a shop. On 11 October 2026, Payhip’s pricing page listed a free plan with a 5% platform transaction fee, Plus at $29/month with 2%, and Pro at $99/month with no Payhip transaction fee. PayPal or Stripe processing charges still apply, according to that page. These are current-page facts, not a promise of your total cost; check your payment provider and location before pricing a pattern.
Prepare the files before making the product
Create a release folder outside the storefront. Include the instruction PDF, each advertised print format, and any read-me or license note a customer needs. Use descriptive filenames and open the final exports on a second device. Print and measure a test square from each home-print format. The file-preparation guide has a fuller QA checklist.
Payhip’s help page says a digital product can contain multiple files and that each file can be up to 5 GB. That is a platform limit, not a target file size. A small, clear PDF is easier for a buyer to download and understand than a needlessly large package. Verify the current limit on Payhip’s help page before upload.
Create the digital product
Payhip documents this route: open Products, choose Add new product, then Digital Product. Upload the release files, add a descriptive title, set the price, choose a cover image, and write the product description. The platform also provides visibility settings: Visible for a public listing, Invisible for the logged-in seller, and Unlisted for direct-link access. These steps are from Payhip’s official setup guide; menu labels may change.
Before entering the form, write a one-row product specification outside Payhip: working title, release version, exact filenames, verified paper formats, price, support route, and visibility choice. For example, a hypothetical top pattern might have an instruction PDF plus separately checked A4 and US Letter files. This is a planning example, not a pattern we have made or a seller account we tested. The specification gives you something concrete to compare against the saved listing and uploaded files.
A useful title names the project and says it is a PDF sewing pattern. In the description, put the finished result first, then the size range, skill level, supplies, file formats, printing requirements, and support information. State clearly that no physical pattern or finished garment is shipped. Our listing-writing guide gives a reusable information order.
Do not upload a photograph you do not own or a diagram that misrepresents a finished sample. Use your own finished-project images, pattern details, and a clear “what is included” graphic. If the sample shown uses a particular size or fabric, say so when that detail affects buyer expectations.
Decide how to show a sample
Payhip’s advanced options include a preview file. For a pattern, a preview might show the cover, table of contents, size chart, and a few instruction pages without giving away the complete product. Label it as a sample and ensure it reflects the current release. Preview files are optional; a confusing or outdated preview can create more questions than it answers.
Before publishing, compare the listing text against the exact uploaded files. If the listing says “A4 and US Letter,” both files must be present and independently checked. If it promises a large-format sheet, verify that export too.
Test the customer path and maintain the release
Payhip states that buyers can download files after completing a purchase and receive an email receipt with a download link. It documents a 100%-off coupon as a way for a seller to test checkout; Payhip also notes that test orders appear in the customer list and cannot be deleted. See the official digital-product help. We have not run that test for your shop.
Once you have seller access, make a test purchase using Payhip’s documented method, open the delivered files, and verify that the receipt and download page match your instructions. Record the tested release version. When you correct a file, update the product and your version log together. Payhip says product files, price, and description can be edited after publication, but check how existing customers receive updates before relying on that workflow.
